The IR-emitter is made of selective transition metal oxides that absorb engine heat and emit IR photons. It can be retrofitted to a nonmetal fuel line of an engine because IR photons can penetrate nonmetal materials. The HC molecules in the fuel traversing through the line are exposed to mid- and far-infrared and excited to raise vibrational states. The IR-excited fuel has better combustibility and can be burned faster in cylinders. It can alter fuel heat-release timing, allowing more heat released in early cycle to do work and less in later cycle as heat loss to raise exhaust gas temperature. This results in more power and less specific fuel combustion, with less HC, CO, NOx, and CO2 emissions.
